2020 Season Update

As of March 23rd, 2020, the upcoming ball hockey season has not been canceled. We have pushed back our start date to the weekend of May 2nd. On April 18th we will receive further news from the Canadian Ball Hockey Association on how to proceed with the upcoming season. Our number one priority is to ensure the safety of all players and families. If at that time we are forced to cancel the season refunds will follow to all members in a paid status.

We ask at this time everyone remains patient and continues to social distance themselves to prevent any further spread.

As parents with children in multiple sports there is nothing we want more for them, to resume their normal lives once this is all over. You'r patience at the time is greatly appreciated.

COVID-19 Update

The Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) is committed to providing its participants and other support groups related to our programs, a safe and healthy environment in which to enjoy the sport of ball hockey.

With the recent events relating the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the CBHA Board of Directors have made the decision to suspend all CBHA sanctioned activities (including those of our member provinces and leagues), effective Tuesday March 17, 2020 until Friday April 17, 2020. This date may change due to the nature of the situation. The CBHA Board of Directors and its member Provinces will provide a status update as we approach April 17th.

The Board is unanimous in their position that this is the proper and responsible action required to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved with CBHA sanctioned programs.

The CBHA has been advised that the ISBHF will be meeting very soon to discuss the upcoming World Championship events in Europe. The CBHA will await direction from the ISBHF and advise its members accordingly.

The CBHA will continue to monitor the situation and will keep our members posted on any new developments and actions that may be required.

The CBHA wishes to thank, in advance, all involved with CBHA programs and activities for their cooperation as we all navigate through this unique and difficult situation.

How does the affect the upcoming season? - South Simcoe Ball Hockey Leagues has set up a contingency plan if we are unable to start April 18th.

We plan to offer the members on what was advertised however we have several possibilities and won’t know how will proceed until we get closer to the CBHA deadline of April 17th. If the severity of this unforeseen Pandemic continues and a start date is not in place for the weekend of May 2nd/3rd we will cancel the season and begin to offer full refunds to our registered members.

Looking for Officials

The South Simcoe Ball Hockey Leagues is currently looking for game officials. All those that are interested must attend the OBHF Referee Certification Clinic. The SSBHL will reimburse 50% of your certification fees (minors only) once you have completed the course and successfully worked a total of 15 hours. (15 games) Based on how our divisions are structured all referees must be 12 years or older to officiate in our league.

2020 Spring Ball Hockey Registration

What a better way to improve your hockey skills in the off-season with the best dry land training the game has to offer.

The South Simcoe Ball Hockey League uses full indoor city rinks and runs its season from mid April to late June.

We are the only league that is registered as a NOT FOR PROFIT organization in the city and are currently proud members of the OBHF (Ontario Ball Hockey Federation).

We are also the only league that is recognized by the OHF (Ontario Hockey Federation) and Hockey Canada and has the support of BMHA (Barrie Minor Hockey Association)

Players enrolled in our program will increase their ability to read the play while developing stick handling creativity. They will improve on their hand-eye coordination while building strength and increasing their cardio ability.

 We currently offer the following co-ed divisions

  • U7 – 2014-2015 (Innisfil Only)
  • U9 – 2012-2013
  • U11 – 2010-2011
  • U13 – 2008-2009
  • U15 – 2006-2007
  • U19 – 2002-2005

All our divisions with the exception of Squirt will receive a Jersey, Shorts and Socks whereas the Squirts will only receive a Jersey.

While we offer a houseleague recreation of play for everyone our more talented individuals will also have the opportunity of being selected for the South Simcoe provincial teams, which will compete at the South Simcoe Championships and the OBHF Provincials later in the season. At those events there may also be the possibility of being scouted for one of the CBHA Junior Team Canada teams (U15, U17 and U19)

The South Simcoe Ball Hockey League continues to offer high school community service, and volunteer hours. We will also be offering referee certification clinics in early April for children and adults who wish to earn extra money in the summer months.

Player Evaluations

The following players will be attending the player evaluations at the Thornton Arena on Tuesday April 23rd. 

Please ensure all players come with proper equipment. This includes a Hockey Stick, Soccer or Ball Hockey Shin Guards, Helmet with full facial cage, Hockey Gloves and Running Shoes. 

Upon arrival children will be assigned pinnies, go through a few basic rules followed by a scrimmage for 35/40 minutes as coaches and volunteers evaluate the players.

2019 Coaches and Evaluations

We would like to welcome the selected coaches for the 2019 ball hockey season.

We have received several applications and would like to thank all those who submitted forms.

Some of our teams do not require evaluations and will hear directly from the coach in the next 7-10 days.

Currently the only available pad that is usable at the moment for evaluations is the Lefroy Arena, however because of its location we thought it might be inconvenient to those coming from North Barrie so we are currently waiting to hear from the Town of Essa regarding the Thornton Arena.

As soon as this information becomes available we will update this current page and notify all our members with dates and times

At this time we do not have a coach for our Barrie Tyke team. Marco will be in contact with the roster shortly to try and gather volunteers to help out with this team.

We are also missing a coach on one of our Barrie Peewee teams. If any volunteers are interested we ask that you submit an application ASAP.

Last Call Registration

South Simcoe Ball Hockey Leagues is just wrapping up its registration for the 2019 spring season for the Barrie, Bradford, Georgina and Innisfil areas.

Online registration will be officially closed on March 24th however some of our younger divisions Squirt, Tyke and Novice to be particular may close sooner as we are overwhelmed with registrations.

All registered participants will be sent an email in early April with more information regarding our player evaluations and our selected coaches.

 

Ice Hockey Goalie Incentives

Goaltenders require abilities such as physical strength, flexibility, hand-eye coordination, balance, endurance, as well as the command of technique, systems and strategies. Many years of practice and training go into becoming a goaltender to enhance the level of individual performance.

Year after year ball hockey leagues across the country continue to have many parents upset when scores run high. In most cases one team may be equipped with an experienced ice hockey goalie while other teams are just rotating through their roster on a weekly basis just to get by.

As a league our main priority is for the children to have fun, however we do understand that sometimes when a team is not equipped with a proper goalie it may get frustrating for everyone at times.

This year we will be offering an incentive to all ice hockey goalies tyke through atom registering with the South Simcoe Ball Hockey Leagues.

Families registering their children as a goalie must do so online (Innisfil, Barrie, Bradford or Georgina) but must also fill out our goalie application form which gives us a little more information on goalie background.

Once we confirm that your child has been playing on a team as a full time goalie the league will refund $85 back to the family as we get closer to our Championship weekend in late June.

Coaching Incentive

Ball Hockey is a sport that requires many volunteers however as the league continues to grow we want to ensure that all our teams are equipped with certified head coaches. This will ensure that all our players have equal opportunity when it comes to leadership behind the bench.

The league will still accept applications from anyone wishing to coach however only those that are certified will receive first opportunity to take on a team and benefit from this cash incentive.

Player fees must be paid in full upon registration however those selected to coach the 2019 season will receive a refund of $80 once the season gets on it way.
